Ildebrando D'Arcangelo Don Giovanni Japan 2015

Donna Elvira (Joyce DiDonato) her gown has script on it and there is script flowing across the three floor set. I thought perhaps Don Giovanni (Ildebrando D'Arcangelo) gets caught in the words during the Commendatore Scene. That's not exactly what happens, as you can see the image of Donna Elvira or perhaps Donna Anna on the set.

Nabokov Quote Should Remind You of Another Quote

"The pages are still blank, but there is a miraculous feeling of the words being there, written in invisible ink and clamouring to become visible." ~Vladimir Nabokov

Kindness by Naomi Nye

Kindness

Naomi Shihab Nye, 1952

Before you know what kindness really is
you must lose things,
feel the future dissolve in a moment
like salt in a weakened broth.
What you held in your hand,
what you counted and carefully saved,
all this must go so you know
how desolate the landscape can be
between the regions of kindness.

Stand Up Interview Local Police Department

Any writer who has a brief, stand-up interview question, I highly recommend my local police department. When I run into them during an early morning coffee run, they don't mind being put on the spot with questions.

How Do Your Drafts Read Online v. How Do Your Drafts Read on Paper?

Every writer has his or her own answer to this comparison.

Faust at Deutsche Oper Berlin

Two interesting questions: if German audiences boo at Faust, maybe they are paid hecklers? Remember last year, at the Salzburg 2014 performance of Don Giovanni, there were boos, but the question is why? What were the boos in response to specifically?

Ildebrando plays a great Mephisto. He's a great actor. How does his Mephisto compare to his Don Giovanni?

A better question: how does his Mephisto compare to Sven-Eric Bechtolt's Satan from Salzburg 2014 Don Giovanni? Thanks to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for the great photo. It's interesting that in this picture, Teodor Ilincai and Ildebrando D'Arcangelo look almost the same.
