Inside newly renovated Ristorante Alte Amore, Christina clinked her wine glass with three friends. “Best farewell party, ever.” Leaving is not sweet sorrow, just sorrow. To Rome. To New York.” Christina drained her glass. “To the fountain covered with roses in the parking lot.”

New Short Story First Paragraph


Rain clouds chased the mid-August sun. Pothole and Hiram stood in the barn loft, watching young men pass hay bales hand to hand toward the barn tackle and pulley, waiting to be lifted skyward to an almost full loft.   The Crayton family barn, ecumenical gray against the sky, lorded the landscape.

Starbucks Door Sign

During this past weekend, on Friday, my local Starbucks door contained an extra sign: "Behind every cup of coffee there's a story." During the past two months, my local Starbucks barista put a copy of my latest short story on the bulletin board. Several people took the short story down, read it, and put it back. Walking in to Starbucks on Friday, 25October2013, was a pleasant surprise, so thank you to the universe.

Revision from Interview

After the five minute interview with my local police department staff, one minor change involved the protagonist taking garbage from a party and setting it out for local pick-up. Not a big change but one direct result from the interview.
